Electric Beach Snorkeling – Kahe Point Beach Park
This is one of the best snorkeling spots in Oahu because of the clarity of the water and abundance of reef fish. The snorkeling spot is named Electric Beach because of the power plant that pumps warm water out of a large pipe that opens up about 100 yards from the beach. The warm water attracts schools of reef fish as well as Hawaiian Green Sea Turtles.
Entry, Exit and Snorkeling Areas at Electric Beach
The entry to Electric Beach is from a sandy shoreline right next to the large pipe that pumps water from the power plant. There are a few rocks right where you get in so be careful while you are putting on your snorkeling fins. The clear water and large fish population is what makes Electric Beach Snorkeling amazing. Once you get in the water make sure that you don?t get caught by a wave while you are trying to get your fins on. Keeping your mask hanging around your neck might save it from being lost if you get hit by a wave.
Now that you’ve got your fins on you can follow the pipe out. Before the warm water pipe opens up it comes up just a few feet from the surface making a great spot to get close to some reef fish.
If you would prefer not to swim out so far just head to your left (West) when you enter the water and stay over the shallow reef.
Kahe Point Beach Park versus Electric Beach Oahu
There is some confusion when people look at a map and can?t find Electric Beach. The official name of the spot is Kahe Point Beach Park but the snorkeling spot is named Electric Beach. For driving directions you will want to look for Kahe Point Beach Park.
Parking and Amenities at Electric Beach
There is a large parking lot at Electric Beach that is rarely full, especially during the week. Scuba divers frequent this spot and it can get crowded in the parking lot early in the morning on weekends. There is currently only a portable toilet at Kahe Point as the restrooms have been under construction for quite some time. There is a shower to wash off after you come out of the water.
