Hanauma Bay Snorkeling Tours and Tips
Hanauma Bay Snorkeling is a must for every Oahu vacation. Hanauma Bay offers snorkeling at all levels.
On the inner reef at Hanauma Bay snorkelers can stay in shallow water and see a wide variety of Hawaiian reef fish and maybe even a Hawaiian Green Sea Turtle. The inner reef is a great place to teach the kids how to snorkel and get comfortable in the ocean. It is by far the best shallow reef for beginners in Oahu.
Advanced snorkelers can swim out to Hanauma Bay’s “outer reef” and see one of the healthiest coral reefs in Oahu. Whatever your skill level may be Hanauma Bay Snorkeling is a great way to spend some time during your stay in Oahu.
Hanauma Bay snorkeling tours are a great way to see the best marine life in Oahu. A local guide can help you get comfortable with your snorkel eqiupment and guide you to the best part of the bay. Snorkeling tours are more expensive than simply renting your snorkel gear from the concession stand but if you want some instructions on how to use your gear or a guide to point out the best that Hanauma Bay has to offer then tours are the way to go.

What Will I See While Snorkeling at Hanauma Bay?
Hanauma Bay beach park is a beautiful snorkeling location because its coral and fish are protected from fishing and other activities that may harm the marine life. The abundance and variety of reef fish at Hanauma Bay makes this some of the best snorkeling in Oahu.
Surgeon Fish, Convict Tangs, Butterfly Fish, Trumpet Fish and Trigger Fish are just a few of the species that you will see while snorkeling Hanauma Bay. If you are lucky you will even come across a Hawaiian Green See Turtle.
Hanauma Bay Snorkeling Equipment Rental
If you are not bringing your own snorkeling equipment or participating in one of the snorkeling tours there is a rental stand on the beach at Hanauma Bay where you can get your mask, snorkel, fins and vest. The Hanauma Bay snorkel rental building will be on your right hand side as you walk down to the beach and past the showers. Masks, snorkels, fins and equipment lockers are available for rent at the stand. Fins are not required for snorkeling but they make it much easier to move through the water and can leave your hands free for taking some photos with an underwater camera.

Tips for keeping water and fog out of your mask
Push the snorkeling mask to your face and inhale through your nose without putting the strap on your head. If the mask sucks to your face and does not fall off you know that the mask is making a good seal.
When you put the strap on do not pull it too tight. If the strap is too tight it will break the seal and cause the mask to leak.
Use some de-fog solution in your mask before you put in on. We use about 1/3 baby shampoo and 2/3 water in a small spray bottle. Spray it in your mask, rub it around and then wash it out in the water. Commercial de-fog solution is also available for sale at almost any snorkeling or Scuba diving retail location but not at Hanauma Bay.
